NPAT Prairies & Conservation Easement Properties
Presenter: Pat Merkord, Board member of NPAT
We are excited to announce that NPAT’s Pat Merkord will be presenting at our August meeting! Pat has been the spearhead of NPAT for many years, both as Executive Director, President & Secretary of the board. She is a dedicated biologist who has traveled the state surveying NPAT’s prairies & working with landowners to conserve some of the most precious prairie remnants in Texas’ diverse prairie ecosystem. In her presentation, Pat will discuss acquisition, advocacy, & prairie management on NPAT properties & conservation easements. From the Rolling Plains to the Gulf Coast to the Blackland Prairie to the Fort Worth Prairie & the Hill Country, NPAT staff, board & volunteers are working hard to protect & conserve Texas’ last remaining prairies. Pat Merkord, returned to the Board of Directors after serving as Executive Director of the Native Prairies Association of Texas. She has supported NPAT as Secretary and President of the Board.
She owns a consulting business, Bluestem Environmental Consultants. Her previous business endeavors included wildlife management plans, wildlife and endangered species surveys, plant surveys and watershed evaluations.
A retired high school biology/chemistry teacher, Ms. Merkord earned her master’s degree in Biology with a specialty in Wildlife. She is especially interested in prairie conservation and restoration in Texas and is an an active member of the Maddin Prairie Committee, Maddin Prairie Preserve, in Mitchell County, Texas.
Pat and her husband, Glenn, have been active birders for many years and enjoy restoring their “urban acre” in Conroe with native plants.
