Why Prairies Matter

Dr. Ken Steigman is the Director of the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA), a 2,600 acre preserve managed by a non-profit consortium headed by The University of North Texas.  LLELA’s mission is to preserve and restore native ecosystems and biodiversity of north Texas and to provide and promote environmental education and research.  He has 36 years of experience in working with the public to participate and enjoy restoring and managing native ecosystems.   Ken previously served as Natural Science Director for the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary where he was awarded Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Lone Star Stewardship Award for his habitat restoration and management accomplishments. His interests include ornithology, prairie ecology, growing native plants, and entomology.
